Phishing, or Identity Theft, Concerns
Phishing (f sh·ing) v.: Also,
known as “brand spoofing” or “brand carding”.
The act of sending an email to a user under the false pretense
of being an established legitimate enterprise (for example,
Floor & Decor) in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering
private information that will be used for identity theft.
Initial emails link users to a Web site where they are asked
to update personal information, such as passwords and credit
card, social security, and bank account numbers that the
legitimate organization already has. The Web site, however,
is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information.
For example, a phishing scam could assume
the identity of Floor & Decor, claiming that the user’s
“account” or profile was about to be suspended
unless he/she click on the provided link and update the
