Once used by the Romans to build the largest building in the world, the Colosseum in Rome, travertine tile has a rich history as a building material.  It is a sedimentary stone formed by hot springs that give it distinctive pores. It can be filled and polished smooth like marble or left in its natural state.  Pure travertine is white, but it is often found in varying shades or tones from soft yellow gold to deep browns. It is most commonly used as a tile for floors or walls, but it is often found in outside architecture as the walls in European castles and churches. Tumbled stones have some naturally round edges compared to other filled and honed stones, but they are still flat edges.
